Static Caravan Transport Cost: An Honest Look at What Determines the Price
Hi there. Whether you are buying your first mobile home for a self-build project or upgrading your holiday park retreat, the very first question on your mind is probably: what is the actual static caravan transport cost?
Here at RolBull Trans LTD, we’ve been moving caravans across the UK for over 25 years. I get phone calls every single day asking for a quick price over the phone. I always tell my customers the truth: I can’t give you a completely accurate price without knowing the details of your move. Any haulier who gives you a flat rate without asking questions is likely going to hit you with hidden fees later.
I want to be completely transparent with you. If you want to understand how your static caravan transport cost is calculated, here are the main factors that go into a professional, heavy haulage quote.
1. The Size and Dimensions of Your Caravan
Not all static caravans are created equal. Moving a standard 10-foot-wide caravan is a very different job from moving a 12-foot or 14-foot-wide unit, or a twin-unit lodge that needs to be split in half.
The wider the load, the more complicated the logistics become. Caravans over a certain width are legally classified as abnormal loads. This means we can’t just hook up the trailer and drive down the motorway; we have to adhere strictly to National Highways guidelines for wide loads, which often dictate specific routes we must take to avoid narrow bridges or roadworks.
2. Mileage and Route Complexity
Naturally, distance plays a massive part in the price. Moving a caravan 20 miles down the road in the same county will cost significantly less than hauling it from a factory in Hull all the way down to a farm in Cornwall.
However, it’s not just about the miles; it’s about the type of miles. Motorway miles are quick and relatively easy on the lorry. But if the final 30 miles involve winding Welsh mountain roads, steep hills, and single-track lanes, it takes a lot more time, fuel, and driver concentration.

3. Escort Vehicles and Police Notifications
As mentioned above, if your mobile home is exceptionally wide or long, the law requires us to notify the police and local authorities along the route. In many cases, we also need to supply a private escort vehicle (a pilot car) to drive ahead of the HGV.
The escort car communicates with the lorry driver via radio, warning oncoming traffic and ensuring safe passage through tight spots. If your move requires an escort vehicle, this will naturally add to the final static caravan transport cost, as you are paying for an extra vehicle and an extra professional driver.
4. Collection and Delivery Access
Time is money in the haulage business. If your caravan is sitting on hardstanding concrete right next to the main gate, we can load it quickly. But if it has been sitting in a muddy field for five years, the tyres are flat, and we have to spend three hours winching it out of the dirt, the price will reflect that extra labour.
The same goes for delivery. If you have a tight access issue (which we specialise in!), we might need to take extra time to carefully manoeuvre the unit into place without causing damage.
5. Beware of the “Too Good to Be True” Quote
Finally, a quick word of warning. You might find a cheaper quote on an internet load-matching board from a “man with a van” who recently bought a flatbed trailer. But ask yourself: do they have proper Goods in Transit insurance for a £30,000 mobile home? Do they have the experience to handle a blow-out on the motorway with a 12-foot wide house on the back?
When you hire a professional company like RolBull Trans, you are paying for peace of mind. We are fully insured, highly experienced, and we don’t cut corners.
